The main bright spot of Chivas USA's season, forward Erick Torres, received some more good news on Monday, as he was named to Miguel Herrera's Mexican national team squad for two friendlies next month.
Torres was one of five foreign-based players to get the call-up, joining former Chivas de Guadalajara teammate Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, along with Guillermo Ochoa, Hector Herrera, and Javier Aquino. As a result, Cubo is once again the only player in MLS to get the nod for El Tri.
The friendlies are October 9 against Honduras in Chiapas, and against Panama October 12 in Queretaro. MLS will play during this international window, so Cubo will likely miss one game, October 11 against the Colorado Rapids at "home." Ironically, Chivas have a 11-day break after that game.
Torres has played one game with the senior Mexican national team, a friendly earlier this month against Bolivia, in which the CUSA star indirectly set up the winner in a 1-0 game. It was a good debut for the 21-year-old, and if he can continue his form, he could be in line to play some competitive games for Mexico in 2015.
Congratulations to Cubo! Continue to do Chivatown proud.
