The votes are in, and two players shared the honors for The Goat Parade's Chivas USA Player of the Month award for August 2014. Goalkeeper and current captain Dan Kennedy and midfielder and current Vancouver Whitecaps player Mauro Rosales both grabbed the most votes. It is the second POTM award this year for both players.
Although it may seem like a surprising outcome, seeing as the team didn't do great results-wise and ended up trading Rosales away, there is merit to the duo's selection. Although the Goats didn't win a game, they did grab a scoreless draw, and CUSA fans know a strong defense with this team starts with Kennedy. And he extended the team's all-time shutout record with the result against, coincidentally, the Whitecaps.
As for Rosales, he did come off the bench in his final appearance for Chivas, the draw against his future team. I suspect the vote for him by the readers is in some way a protest at his departure, as his trade was very controversial. At any rate, he's left California with an award from the readers of the site.
Be on the lookout for the poll for the September Player of the Month award. And thanks to those who voted in the August poll!
