Eric Avila turns up at Queretaro FC training

The former Chivas USA midfielder emerges with another Mexican team.

Wonder what happened to Eric Avila? He hasn't been signed by Santos Laguna after all (so far) and there was no word of him after his first day on his latest trial at Chivas de Guadalajara last month.

On Tuesday, Avila himself revealed his whereabouts, as he posted an instagram where he was jogging alongside Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho, presumably at Liga MX side Queretaro FC's training (they were wearing team gear):

Of course, it appears Avila is on trial with Gallos Blancos, as there's been no announcement concerning a signing at this point, and Ronaldinho is supposedly unsettled at Queretaro after skipping most of the preseason with his team. So who knows if both of them will actually be teammates this season.

But maybe Avila will finally latch on with a Liga MX team. Queretaro opened the 2015 Clausura with a 1-1 road draw against Pumas over the weekend, and they're a team that usually finishes in the middle to bottom of the league table, and they missed the playoffs last season with a 12th place finish. They have some talent, but they're one of the teams that other Liga MX teams stash players on loan.

There are MLS links to Queretaro FC, however. Camilo Sanvezzo infamously transferred there for the 2014 Clausura season, after winning MLS' Golden Boot in 2013. He won the Golden Boot last season in Liga MX, but recently tore his ACL, so he's out of commission.

Also, there's a Chivas USA connection, albeit not one of Avila's teammates in recent seasons. I'm talking, of course, about Jonathan Bornstein, who is on loan to Gallos Blancos from Tigres but has played all of 65 minutes for the first team to date, all in the Copa MX.

We'll see if Avila sticks at Queretaro and signs a deal there. Best of luck to him on finding a good situation.
