The LA Galaxy and FC Dallas made an entirely predictable trade on Tuesday, as Dallas sent goalkeeper Dan Kennedy back to California in exchange for a couple draft picks. Kennedy spent a season with Dallas, but injuries and youngster Jesse Gonzalez taking his spot in the starting lineup sealed his fate in Texas.
The move is predictable because the Galaxy needed a goalkeeper, after cutting three of four on the roster after Donovan Ricketts almost singlehandedly sunk the Galaxy's prospects in their lone playoff game this season.
For those former Chivas USA fans, however, the move is bound to be negative. While I can't say I will be thrilled to see DK representing the team he faced off against year after year, the move itself makes sense for all parties and Chivas USA doesn't exist anymore.
You may recall Kennedy was nearly traded to the Galaxy before the 2013 season, but instead he stayed with the Goats, endured two horrible years and really paid his dues with a team that was never good enough around him to be competitive, before the entire club disappeared. I can't say I won't be cringing, hard, when he inevitably talks up his new club, but I don't think he deserves any ire, either. He did everything he could for Chivas USA, so let's not call him a traitor or whatever. Just my opinion.
