If you've read The Goat Parade any length of time, you know our affection for former Chivas USA player Jorge Villafaña. From winning the first "Sueño MLS" program and signing a pro deal as a teenager with the Goats in 2007, through to his trade to the Portland Timbers before CUSA's final season, Villafaña was an obvious fan favorite during his time with the SoCal club.
On Sunday, Villafaña capped off his second season in Portland with a full 90-minute shift in the Timbers 2-1 win over Columbus Crew SC in the 2015 MLS Cup final. Villafaña was a fixture at left back this season, and did his part in helping Portland to the upset win over the hosts in the final, as Portland wins their first major trophy since joining MLS in 2011. He joins another former Chivas USA teammate, Ben Zemanski, who hasn't played most of the season as he tore his ACL early in the campaign.
It caps off Villafaña's ninth season. We've watched Sueño go from a hometown boy to a well-respected defender, from a kid to a man with a family. Felicidades, Jorge. Savor this moment.
