The Houston Dynamo released a video over the weekend of Erick "Cubo" Torres' ride into Houston from the airport the weekend before, where he was presented officially by the club.
In the video, which you can watch below, Cubo more or less makes small talk with the host of the team's video channel. However, he does spend a few moments discussing his former MLS team, Chivas USA, in contrast to his future MLS team.
Here's the key quote:
"You know what I love about Houston? How involved the fans are with the team. Maybe it's because we suffered a bit over at Chivas USA. Very few people supported there. I mean, those who showed up were hardcore fans - but we didn't have much support overall.
So now that I see how Houston fans are, I'm in awe. It's great. At the end of the day, the fans are what motivates you. It's the people and seeing a full stadium."
I think that's a fair assessment. If Chivas USA had better support, they might (I stress the word might here) have stuck around past last season, though obviously the whole terrible ownership and management situations contributed to the loss of support and the poor performance of the club in all facets.
I'll be writing more on Torres' struggles at Chivas de Guadalajara in the days to come, but I thought the comment was pretty interesting and wanted to share.
