Fresh off his two-goal performance this weekend to open his account with the Orange County Blues, forward Christofer Ramirez was named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 5.
Ramirez, on loan from Salvadoran side Atletico Marte, scored his brace in the Blues 3-0 victory Saturday over previously-undefeated Arizona United SC, notching the winner on a header from a corner kick in the first half, before icing the win with the third goal on the night, as he took down a long ball from teammate Romeo Filipovic and slotted the ball past Arizona's 'keeper.
In addition to Ramirez's selection, another OC Blues player, midfielder Luka Petricevic, made the USL Team of the Week bench. Petricevic, another newcomer to the Blues this season, also scored his first goal for the club in the win over AZ United.
That means there's been Blues representation on the Team of the Week, as well as the TOTW bench, for two weeks running.
One more note: former Chivas USA midfielder Rodrigo Lopez won USL Player of the Week honors. Lopez, now a key contributor on Sacramento Republic FC, will face off against the Blues on Friday in Sacramento. Should be a big game!
