The Orange County Blues FC put their three-game winning streak on the line, and begin a tough two-game road trip in three days, by facing the Seattle Sounders FC 2 in Tukwila, Wash. this evening. Both teams have started the season well, though Seattle's blazing hot start has been halted by picking up just a point in their last three games.
Still, S2 looks like they'll be in the playoff picture come season's end, and have lots of talented players, as well as experienced pros and will be eager to get back to winning ways. The Blues climbed a huge mountain last week in winning their first road game, against defending champion Sacramento Republic, no less, but they'll have to redouble their efforts if they want to grab another vital three points.
How to Watch: 7:30 pm PT, YouTube (or see video below). The County Line Coalition will also host a viewing party tonight at Beach City Brewery in Huntington Beach (7631 Woodwind Dr.).
Given the attention the Blues have gotten in recent weeks for their strong play, you have to figure teams will be looking that much harder to shut them down. I expect Seattle to either prevent OC from holding onto the ball so much, or alternately, lulling them into a trap deep in the Sounders half, before springing the counterattack as often as they can. The counter has been a hallmark of Sounders play, for both the MLS and new USL iterations, so that latter strategy may be preferred, though we'll have to see when the teams take to the field tonight.
Oliver Wyss may opt to make some changes to his lineup for this match, since the Blues have another game on Sunday against Portland Timbers 2. Of course, one change will be mandatory, as midfielder Luka Petricevic is suspended against S2 after picking up a red card last week. Jacob Barron could be the player to take Petricevic's spot on the night. Beyond that, don't be surprised to see at least a few more changes.
If you missed it, be sure to check out our Three Questions feature on Sounders 2 from Thursday with Dave Clark.
