The first round proper of the 2015 U.S. Open Cup was played on Wednesday, with a few Southern California teams involved.
Local amateur side PSA Elite absolutely crushed USL PDL team Golden State Misioneros 7-1, in the most lopsided result of the 21 games of the first round. It was the second year in a row PSA beat the Misioneros in the Open Cup. As a result of the win, PSA Elite will host local USL side Orange County Blues next Wednesday in the second round of the Open Cup tournament, to be held at Weingart Stadium in Los Angeles at 7 pm PT.
In other local action, Open Cup fixture Ventura County Fusion defeated 2012 USOC Cinderella side Cal FC 6-5 on penalties following a 3-3 draw through added extra time. They will play LA Galaxy II next week in the second round.
An amateur side, Chula Vista Futbol Club, downed USL PDL side FC Tucson 2-1. The victors will also face a USL side, Arizona United SC, next week to see if they can continue their run.
We'll have more coverage of the PSA-Blues game next week.
