Cancha reported on Saturday that former Chivas USA forward Erick "Cubo" Torres has been accused of sexual assault in Mexico. According to their report (Spanish), as described at length by ESPN Deportes (Spanish), the alleged assault occurred at a hotel party in Zapopan that also featured Torres' current Chivas de Guadalajara teammates Jorge Enriquez and Carlos Salcedo on April 22. The account given by Cancha says the trio plied the alleged victim with alcohol before Torres assaulted her in a separate room. After the alleged victim's mother saw marks on her arms the next day, she then went to a local hospital and reported her experience.
Torres, 22, is currently on loan at Chivas from the Houston Dynamo, but he is yet to make an appearance for his new MLS team. His loan will officially end come the end of Chivas' playoff campaign, which is ongoing, but he won't be allowed to play in MLS until the summer transfer window opens in July. However, if he has legal troubles in Mexico stemming from these serious allegations, soccer may fall pretty far down the list of priorities. Stay tuned on that count.
