Well, the Orange County Blues' streak of making the USL Team of the Week was snapped last week. But that's because they didn't play the week before.
However, their streak (of sorts, I suppose) of making the USL Team of the Week on weeks when they have at least one game continues, as forward Christofer Ramirez made it on the Week 9 Team of the Week, announced on Tuesday. Ramirez had two goals in the Blues' 3-1 win midweek over the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. It is Ramirez's second such selection so far this season, and he leads Orange County with five goals.
Another Blues player, midfielder Luka Petricevic, was named to the Team of the Week bench. In addition, two former Blues, Louisville City FC's Matt Fondy (also formerly of Chivas USA) and Gibson Bardsley made the bench, Bardsley in large part for scoring the winner for the Tulsa Roughnecks against the Blues on Saturday. And former Blues midfielder Rodrigo Lopez was also on the Team of the Week for the umpteenth time.
The Blues are next in action on Wednesday, in the U.S. Open Cup against USASA side PSA Elite. They'll return to league play May 30 against Seattle Sounders 2, so here's hoping they continue on in the meantime in the Open Cup!
