Kudos to MLSsoccer.com for putting together a nice concise video of the festivities at Monday's LAFC stadium announcement event. Featuring some of the formal speeches from managing partner Henry Nguyen and co-owner Nomar Garciaparra, as well as remarks from a variety of people, including co-owner Magic Johnson, team president Tom Penn, and MLS Commissioner Don Garber, it gives you a sense of what happened on Monday.
One thing that kind of hit home for me as I was watching the video: Having that native Angelino element among the ownership is pretty important. I'm not sure about the provenance of some of the lesser-known LAFC owners, but Garciaparra was born and raised in the area, and I think it's useful to have someone with that perspective in the ownership group. In contrast, Johnson is certainly the most famous person in Southern California, but he's a transplant originally from Michigan.
In the end, I don't think those who moved to the area from elsewhere can't understand Los Angeles (after all, I'm a transplant from Michigan myself), but the variety of perspectives may be of value for this new club.
Anyway, I thought it was a pretty interesting video, so be sure to check it out.
