The games now come thick and fast for the Orange County Blues, as they try to recover from a blowout loss midweek to host the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 for the second time this season. The Blues are in a tailspin at the moment, and while nothing seems to be going their way, perhaps getting back in action as quickly as possible will help them arrest the slide. That's got to be the plan for Oliver Wyss' team, anyway.
The Blues had their worst outing of the season on Wednesday, as they were thrashed 5-0 on the road against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. The problems seem to be manifest all over the field, with the defense suddenly porous, the midfield no longer dominant, and practically no service going to the attack. All in all, June has been a tough month for Orange County, but they've got one last game before turning the page on the calendar. On the bright side, leading scorer Christofer Ramirez came off the bench on Wednesday after an absence, so hopefully he'll be good to start in this game and be able to bring some life back into the attack.
For their part, the ThunderCaps have been inconsistent overall this season but have improved after looking really poor to start their inaugural campaign. The young team will remain the second priority in their organization to the MLS team, of course, but with the likes of first-team loaners Caleb Clarke and Ben McKendry clicking and the group overall gaining some chemistry, they will likely put up a tougher fight than in the first meeting between these clubs, when the Blues won rather easily 2-0 after a first-half red card set the Whitecaps 2 back. You can never count on red cards, of course, but the ThunderCaps shouldn't look as disjointed as in the first meeting.
These teams are level on points at the moment and right next to each other in the standings, so a win in tonight's game would move the victor back up the table. Can the Blues find that elusive win, or will the ThunderCaps be the second team this week to exact revenge over OC? We'll find out come game time.
