The Orange County Blues are back in action on Wednesday evening, and looking to make it two wins in a row, as they host OKC Energy FC (7:30 pm PT). The Blues had a poor June, minus Saturday's 3-2 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, and they'll be looking to fully turn the page to what will be a busy month. Can they grab more points against OKC, who they are playing for the first time this season?
Energy FC, coached by former Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen, are in their second season in the USL and after a somewhat sluggish start to the 2015 season, went on a roll, only blighted by a recent losing streak. They certainly have the capability to beat the Blues if the hosts are not at their best, with Danish forward Danni Konig lighting it up for OKC so far this season, and former Chivas USA forward Casey Townsend turning into a decent set-up man.
Meanwhile, the priority for OC has to be to play at their best, something that they had been unable to do until the win over the weekend. In particular, if Didier Crettenand and Christofer Ramirez are truly back in form, that should help take the pressure off the defense and should give the Blues a credible two-way game. This is a key game, no question, to see if they can gain a better foothold in the Western playoff positions and to get back to form with another game coming at the weekend.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 19 points (6-6-1), 6th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -1 (19/20); Last five matches: W-L-L-L-D
OKC Energy: 24 points (7-4-3), 5th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: 2 (23/21); Last five matches: L-L-W-W-W
