Does it feel like the Orange County Blues just played a game? They did, but they've got another one on their Oklahoma road trip, Saturday evening against OKC Energy FC (5 pm PT). The Blues lost their last game, on Thursday against the Tulsa Roughnecks, but the last time they had two games in three days, they won the second of the stand. Can they repeat that feat in Oklahoma City?
Both teams are entering the game on winless runs, the Blues' stretching back two losses, and Energy FC on a four game slide, albeit with a draw mixed in. In the teams' only meeting to date this season, way back on July 1, OC downed OKC 1-0 on Christofer Ramirez's goal. But Orange County have been on a run of three weeks in a row of two-game weeks, and with the schedule becoming even more compact with two games in three days, the edge on paper certainly has to go to the hosts, who last played last weekend and probably shouldn't be at risk of suffering from fatigue like the visitors.
However, Energy FC have some issues of their own heading into this game, though those may technically be off-field in nature. It appears the supporters group The Grid have a lot of chants with swearing in them, and the team has asked them to tone it down, something the group is upset about and has led to a lot of discussion locally. From a team perspective, Jimmy Nielsen's men may simply not really be affected and play as they usually do, but a tense and muted atmosphere could have an impact on the on-field proceedings, you never know.
What's clear is that both of these teams are pretty good if inconsistent, but will need to claw and scratch their way to ensure a playoff place this season. Every game counts, especially with these teams taking up the last two postseason spots at the moment. Will Energy FC cruise to a revenge win against the Blues, or will OC rebound from a tough outing a couple nights back and grab another victory over OKC?
