It's game night for the Orange County Blues, as they host a new opponent, Real Salt Lake-owned Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday evening (7 pm PT). Since the teams have never met, it's hard to say how they'll match up. The Blues dropped out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference after Friday's action, so they need to work to get back into the postseason mix, while Real Monarchs will look to build on just their second win of the season last week, as they sit in last place in the West.
The Blues, coming off two consecutive draws, have been playing well or poorly based on their opponents the past couple months. With certain teams, they look awful, and against others, they look fantastic. On paper, the struggles SLC have had in their debut season augurs well for the Blues, no question, but they are on a bit of an uptick themselves, taking four points in their last two games. It may be a matter of a team finally clicking, and if they are, OC would be wise not to let the teams' resumes dictate their approach in the game. Add to that the absence of defensive rock Brenton Griffiths due to suspension, and Real Monarchs certainly can't enter the game with their heads low.
Still, this seems like a game that Orange County ought to win, and if they can grab three points, that will help them get back into the playoff positions, a goal that has to be the minimum objective for them this season.
