Following a performance in which he singlehandedly brought the Orange County Blues from a deficit to a lead against Real Monarchs SLC, midfielder Pavle Popara was named to the USL Team of the Week for week 20. Popara scored a second-half brace as the Blues completed the season sweep over Real Monarchs, with Saturday's result being a 2-1 winfor OC.
The Team of the Week selection is the 28-year-old Popara's first in USL, after joining the Blues last month from Serbian club Radnicki Nis. Popara has quickly slotted into Orange County's lineup, and has notched the aforementioned two goals as well as two assists so far.
It's the second week in a row a Blues player has had some kind of recognition on the Team of the Week, after Denzel Slager was named to the TOTW bench last week.
The Blues will seek to extend their winning streak on Saturday against the Austin Aztex, who they have not yet met. We'll have coverage of the key tilt in the Western Conference playoff chase.
