The Orange County Blues are in the USL playoffs this season, and got a bye past this weekend's opening action, but they apparently had a schedule conflict with their venue this season, Anteater Stadium on the campus of UC Irvine.
The Conference semifinal round is scheduled for next weekend, and both the men's and women's teams at UCI had home games next weekend. So the Blues have had to move to a new venue for the match, to be played against the winner of tonight's Sacramento Republic-LA Galaxy II game.
So, the Blues announced on Friday that the playoff game will take place next Saturday, Oct. 3, at Shapell Stadium in Yorba Linda, which is Yorba Linda High School's home stadium. Kickoff will be at 7 pm PT.
The stadium has a capacity of about 4,000, according to the high school's website, and the field looks like it will be a turf football field. Sac Republic fans on social media immediately jumped on these conditions and began complaining, but that's the reality when there's a stadium share situation and the club needs to find a new venue on short notice. This is another reason why the reported effort by OC to build their own stadium is a good thing, so that the club and fans don't have to make do on short notice again in the future.
