Orange County Blues defender Brenton Griffiths has been named to the USL Team of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Griffiths scored a goal and helped hold the LA Galaxy II to a single tally in a 2-1 Blues win on Saturday. According to the club, he's the ninth Blues player to make USL's Team of the Week this season.
In addition, attacker David Estrada was selected to the Team of the Week bench for the second week running. It's obviously tough to be one of 11 players out of 24 total teams in the league, but Estrada had a phenomenal 90 minute performance on Saturday, and set up the game-winner for the Blues.
Finally, former Blues (and Chivas USA) striker Matthew Fondy was named USL Player of the Week once again, as he made history last week in breaking the league's single-season scoring mark from Orlando City midfielder Kevin Molino, and now sits on 22 for the season.
