The votes are in, and midfielder Didier Crettenand wins Angels on Parade’s 2016 Orange County Blues player of the year award. A late vote edged him past fellow midfielder Ivan Mirkovic for the honor.

Crettenand, 30, came in second on the team in scoring this season, with nine goals, to go with two assists. The scorer of the final penalty in the shootout that defeated Sacramento Republic and handed the Blues their first playoff win in club history, Crettenand was once again a focal point in Orange County’s attack. In particular, Crettenand’s second season with the Blues was the year of the set piece, as his goals came mostly off direct free kicks or penalties.

The Swiss midfielder at times served as captain in 2016, and by all appearances was one of several leaders for the younger players on the roster.

Congratulations to Didier for the award, and good job on a solid 2016 season.
