The exodus of players from the Orange County Blues continues, as USL announced on Tuesday that defender Matt Sheldon has signed with Saint Louis FC. Sheldon, a rookie with the Blues in 2016 who became the starting right back for the second half of the season after joining during the campaign, will join another 2016 teammate, midfielder Ivan Mirkovic, in Saint Louis.

Sheldon is the third player to depart the club so far this offseason. While the league overall is making roster moves much faster on the whole this year than in years past and there’s a lot of time before next season begins, the fact that so many players are joining teams so quickly may be a tiny bit concerning for the Blues’ hopes on the free agent market. Obviously roster turnover is totally normal in USL, and with the team still needing to fill the head coaching vacancy, signings may be on the backburner.

So stay tuned on action from the OC perspective. It’s coming at some point, we just don’t know when quite yet.
