The latest departure from the Orange County Blues 2016 roster was announced on Tuesday, with midfielder Mats Bjurman signing with fellow USL side Saint Louis FC. Bjurman just finished his rookie season with the Blues, having made 23 regular season appearances and playing in both playoff games for OC, scoring a goal and four assists.
“Mats is a player that was on Preki's list when he arrived,” said St. Louis general manager Jeremy Alumbaugh in a statement on the signing. “There is a quality to him in the attacking third that fits how we will play. He likes to come inside and get to goal, and he’s a very honest player with a big upside. Likewise, Mats is another player coming to us with playoff experience.”
Bjurman becomes the third player this offseason to trade the Blues for Saint Louis, joining Ivan Mirkovic and Matt Sheldon.
And we’ll say it again — roster turnover is common in USL and there are months to go before the USL season starts, but the Blues are quickly being passed by other teams around the league in terms of roster moves being made for 2017. A coach still needs to be hired, but it will be interesting to see when Orange County starts signing players for next season.
