Akwafei Ajeakwa leaves OC Blues, signs with San Antonio FC

Starting striker moves to Lone Star State.

The Orange County Blues watch another 2016 starter depart the club, as fellow USL side San Antonio FC announced on Tuesday they have signed forward Akwafei Ajeakwa. The 24-year-old Southern California native departs after spending one season with Orange County.

Ajeakwa only scored one goal and had a whopping three red cards last season, but he was nevertheless a regular starter for the Blues, first choice alongside Trevin Caesar. As you would imagine with Ajeakwa’s statistics, he was very much a support striker, but his workrate on both sides of the ball was ample, and he certainly battled throughout his time on the field, every game.

That makes Ajeakwa the fourth Blues player to officially depart the club and end up at another USL side so far this offseason. It seems a little concerning that all of the independent teams are quickly making signings this offseason while OC has stood pat, but they’ve got a few months yet to build their roster. And of course they still need a head coach, something that is probably stopping them from making signings at the moment.

We’ll keep you posted with other comings and goings for Orange County as the offseason progresses.
