Along with announcing an official affiliate partnership with MLS expansion side Los Angeles Football Club on Wednesday, the Orange County Blues also quietly dropped the first indications of the club’s new era, with a new website and a new program for season tickets, a “founding membership.”
What is a founding membership? According to the description on the payment page:
With each $25 down payment, you will receive a limited edition hat with the new team name and team crest, as soon as the re-brand is launched in early 2017. Each down payment will give you priority access for up to four people when selecting your seat(s) at Orange County’s new home venue. An Orange County representative will contact you with seating and pricing options when the stadium announcement is made in the next few weeks. The 2017 USL season will run from March 24, 2017 - October 15, 2017 with the schedule coming out in early January. Thank you for your support!
So in effect, the founding membership is essentially the same idea as LAFC’s Originals, where a $50 down payment on a season ticket by the end of 2016 comes with some swag and perks for the MLS side.
You’ll notice in the description and in the payment page that OC’s new home is obliquely mentioned, with an announcement apparently coming soon. One would expect given the trademarks club owner James Keston filed that all have “Orange County” prominently in the name that the team will indeed remain in OC, but we’ll have to wait and see where the team will play next season and beyond.
