The Orange County Blues announced their first rookie signing on Friday, with the addition of midfielder Grady Howe to the roster for the 2016 season. Howe is coming off a four-year collegiate career at UCLA.

"We're very excited to welcome Grady to the OC Blues," said head coach and general manager Oliver Wyss in a team statement. "Grady had an outstanding career at UCLA and we believe he will excel at the professional level as well."

Howe was previously a member of the LA Galaxy academy, and grew up in Newport Beach. In addition to being "UCLA Rookie of the Year" his freshman season, Howe served as captain his senior year (2015) and was named UCLA Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2014, while playing in all but one game in college.

"I couldn't be happier to sign with the OC Blues," said Howe. "The professional training environment, coaching staff, and facilities are all top notch. Since I grew up in Orange County, I will wear the jersey with a lot of pride. I am excited to give everything I have to contribute to the success of the team and to help win the USL Championship."

That makes 12 players for the Blues roster as announced so far in preseason. OC's next preseason game is against, coincidentally, UCLA, on Sunday at Great Park in Irvine.
