The Orange County Blues announced on Friday their latest signing for the 2016 season, midfielder Christian Silva.
The 26-year-old spent the 2015 season with the Rochester Rhinos, winning the USL Championship alongside another OC newcomer, Brandon Miller. Silva made four regular season appearances for the Rhinos, racking up one assist. Prior to that, the Florida native spent time in Germany in the Hannover and Werder Bremen systems, and played for Karlstad Bk in the Swedish minor leagues in 2014.
"We are very excited that Christian has decided to sign with the OC Blues FC," said head coach and general manager Oliver Wyss in a team statement. "Having won the USL Championship last season, he will bring a winning mentality that will contribute to our team's success on the field and in the locker room."
"I'm very excited to join the OC Blues and get a taste of the Western Conference," said Silva. "Seeing first-hand the success we had in Rochester is something I'm determined to replicate here, and take Orange County to a USL Championship."
The signing adds to the Blues' midfield for the coming season, joining Christopher Santana, Pavle Popara, Nikola Ilich and Ryan Felix, and bringing the so-far announced roster to nine for 2016, with Tyler Feeley, Brenton Griffiths, Trevin Caesar and Miller the other players confirmed to be on the team for now.
One unfortunate piece of news this week for David Estrada fans, as he was announced as Charlotte Independence's signing earlier this week. Who knows if this was a team or player decision, or both, but it is a shame he won't be back with the Blues this year, since he played so well for the club.
