So since we don't know anything else about what happened here, let's review the Blues' scores from this preseason:
Date | Opponent | Result |
Feb. 8 | Colorado Rapids | L, 2-0 |
Feb. 16 | Seongnam FC | L, 2-0 |
Feb. 20 | Univ. of San Diego | L, 4-1 |
Feb. 28 | UCLA | D, 1-1 |
Mar. 2 | Cal State Fullerton | W, 2-0 |
Mar. 7 | Indy Eleven | W, 1-0 |
Mar. 10 | Arizona United SC | D, 0-0 |
Mar. 17 | Colorado Springs Switchbacks | D, 0-0 |
Mar. 19 | Cal State Northridge | W, 2-1 |
So what does this tell us? As ever, preseason results mean absolutely nothing. Teams can go winless in the preseason and get results in the actual season, and a good preseason can be a mirage for actual form during the season.
That said, if we were to give any credence to preseason results, a 3-3-3 mark is pretty solid, as is a six-game run without a loss. It seems the defense is getting some reps together, and only allowing one goal in the final six games is nice.
Of course, there still aren't enough players announced on the roster for this season to fill out a gameday 18, and the season opener is on Saturday. One imagines we'll hear about some more signings this week, but we're also pretty likely to be in the dark on the starting XI and seeing who's playing until we get to game time next week.
We'll keep you posted on Blues news and have plenty of season preview content this week. Stay tuned.
