After a week-plus break between games the Orange County Blues are back at it on Saturday, leaving the comforts of Southern California for the first time this season to take on Sacramento Republic at Bonney Field. The teams enter the game on the exact same record, next to each other in the standings, but in contrasting form, as the Blues have won their last two and Republic have lost their last two. What will happen?
Regardless, it's going to be an interesting test for Oliver Wyss' group. They beat SRFC in Sacramento early in the season last year, a result that arguably put OC on the map for the season. With the same coaching staff but a largely remade lineup, can get they do it again this year?
It's early in the season so it isn't exactly a make-or-break result for either side at this point, but spirits are sagging for Sacramento at the moment and you know they'll be up for a win. The Blues, meantime, have been a streaky team under Wyss, and continuing a win streak would certainly help shoot them up the standings and deliver another message to the rest of the league that this team can't be counted out.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 7 points (2-2-1), 9th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -1 (4/5); Last five games: W-W-D-L-L
Sacramento Republic: 7 points (2-2-1), 8th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: 0 (2/2); Last five games: L-L-D-W-W
