The Orange County Blues welcome Arizona United SC to Anteater Stadium in Irvine this evening (7 pm PT). It will be the first meeting of the season between the teams, who have split the all-time series right down the middle to date at four wins apiece.
For OC, the game represents a chance for them to get back on track after a tough 3-0 loss at home on Sunday to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. While it was just one game, it did arrest a four-game unbeaten streak where they seemed to be finding a rhythm. Obviously, they'll be eager to get back to that. One note: Akwafei Ajeakwa will be suspended for this game after picking up a red card last week.
Meantime, AZ United are on a three-game unbeaten run themselves, and appear to be finding their footing on the defensive side of the ball. Under former MLS coach Frank Yallop now, Arizona are struggling to score so far this season. Longtime Blues striker Chris Cortez is now with Arizona, but similar to the Blues to some extent, they are still feeling out the attack.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 10 points (3-3-1), 8th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -3 (5/8); Last five games: L-W-W-W-D
Arizona United: 8 points (2-3-2), 11th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -2 (4/6); Last five games: D-D-W-L-L
