The Orange County Blues broke a club record with 302 consecutive minutes of not conceding through the first 10 minutes of Sunday's game against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Anteater Stadium, but that was the extent of the positives for them, as they snapped their three-game winning streak in a 3-0 loss.
Two first-half goals, by Saeed Robinson and Luke Vercollone, put the visitors ahead, before a straight red card to OC forward Akwafei Ajeakwa in the 74th minute put the Blues down to 10 men, and Martin Maybin added a late goal to ice the result for Colorado Springs.
The result is a disappointment for the Blues, who were unbeaten in four and had that shutout streak rolling, but setbacks are bound to happen over the course of the season, and Colorado Springs are one of the better teams around.
The Blues have just under a week to regroup, as they host Arizona United SC next Saturday for the teams' first meeting of the season.
