An all-SoCal 2016 U.S. Open Cup showdown took place on Wednesday, as La Máquina defeated fellow UPSL opponent LA Wolves FC by a 2-0 score, and will therefore advance to the fourth round of the tournament.

Both goals in the game came courtesy of forward Edwin Borboa, a veteran of the top two Mexican divisions and former Liga MX winner. He scored in each half, in the 17th minute and the 68th minute, to grab the win for La Máquina and move on in the Open Cup, their first-ever foray into the tournament.

Now, the result sets up a fourth-round date against the LA Galaxy on June 15 at StubHub Center. It's the second consecutive season the Galaxy will face a local amateur team, after downing PSA Elite by a comfortable 6-1 scoreline last year. Of course, PSA had the result softened a bit, perhaps, by winning the cash prize as the amateur team to advance farthest in the tournament.

And La Máquina may be getting a payday of their own, although they might have to share the pot if they go the same distance:

Of course, if either La Máquina or Kitsap Pumas win in the next round and the other does not, then the prize goes to one team. Only the Galaxy to beat for glory and $15,000, La Máquina!
