The Orange County Blues aim to get some positive traction after a tough loss last week, as they host Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday evening at Anteater Stadium. This is the second meeting of the season between the teams, after Real Monarchs managed a 3-1 comeback win over the Blues in Utah a month ago.
Both sides will be looking to bounce back after losing last week, with Real Salt Lake's USL side on a two-game losing streak. The teams are in similar form at the moment, sit next to each other in the Western Conference standings, looking up at the playoff positions. Yes, it's still early to get really preoccupied with playoff positioning, but these teams have work to do to get back in the slots come fall.
OC will be missing Akwafei Ajeakwa, who is serving the first of two games' suspension, and technical director Barry Venison will be banned from being on the sideline for the match. The team has dealt with issues all season with suspensions and injuries, and are still looking for consistency, and here's their latest opportunity to hit a good run of form.
And as we saw in the last meeting, Ricardo Velazco is a gamebreaking talent at this level for Real Monarchs, and the complimentary pieces are more than capable of playing well and holding their own against any team in USL. Given the inconsistent form of both sides, it's hard to predict what will happen in this game, but it should be a good one.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 15 points (4-5-3), 10th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -4 (13/17); Last five games: L-W-D-L-D
Real Monarchs: 16 points (4-6-4), 9th place in Western Conference; -3 (15/18); Last five games: L-L-W-D-L
