Coming off their 1-0 win over Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday, an Orange County Blues player, defender Roy Meeus, has been named to USL’s Team of the Week bench for Week 13. It is his first such recognition since joining the Blues this season.
Meeus has quickly moved to being one of Orange County’s key players, possibly even the lynchpin for the side. Taking the lion’s share of the set pieces and now firmly entrenched as the assigned penalty taker, Meeus is second at the moment in minutes played on the team, tied for first in goals scored, and leading the team in assists. For as much as it seemed the offseason loss of Josh Suggs would be major, Meeus has actually upgraded the left back position so far this year.
In other news, former Chivas USA forward Caleb Calvert was also named to the USL Team of the Week bench, for his performance with the Charlotte Independence, who he’s on loan with from the Colorado Rapids.
