How to Watch Rio Grande Valley FC vs. Orange County Blues

Blues will try to end Texas road trip on a high note

MLS: Chivas USA at Colorado Rapids
Cabrera: The man in charge at RGVFC.

The Orange County Blues will take on a new opponent in their Texas two-step on Sunday, as they face expansion side Rio Grande Valley FC for the first time (5:30 pm PT).

RGV, the USL team of the Houston Dynamo, stumbled a bit out of the gate but have rebounded in a big way here in the middle of the season under former Chivas USA head coach Wilmer Cabrera, as they are certainly in playoff contention at this point. And frankly, with a 29-team league and the higher profile success stories of expansion sides FC Cincinnati and to a lesser extent San Antonio FC, RGV have basically flown under the radar.

For OC, the timing may not be great to catch an expansion team trying to figure things out, as RGV have settled into a pretty good rhythm, but that’s not to say the home side can’t be beaten. The Blues have been a Jekyll-and-Hyde team this year, following up a good performance and result with a poor one, and they’ll hope this game turns out better than Thursday’s, when they collapsed in the second half and ultimately lost to San Antonio.

But their suspended players (Akwafei Ajeakwa, Trevin Caesar and Ivan Mirkovic) will be available for selection, if they traveled to Texas, and one would expect a changed lineup for the second game in four days, regardless.

Tale of the Tape:

OC Blues: 18 points (5-6-3), 8th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -4 (16/20); Last five matches L-W-L-W-D

RGVFC: 23 points (6-4-5), 5th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: 2 (21/19); Last five matches: D-L-W-L-W

How to watch Rio Grande Valley FC vs. OC Blues: The game kicks off at 5:30 pm PT at UTRGV Soccer complex in Edinburg, Texas. You can watch the stream below or on the league’s matchcenter for the game.
