Brazil vs. Ecuador may be the hot game in town on Saturday night, but if you're looking for live soccer in more modest, less traffic-gnarled circumstances, USL is still in session during the Copa América Centenario group stage, and the Orange County Blues host Seattle Sounders 2 at Anteater Stadium on Saturday.
This will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams, and it's safe to say the fortunes for both sides, who reached the playoffs a year ago, have dipped. In the Blues' case, they simply haven't gotten everything to click, despite playing quite well in most of their games. For S2, that's also the case to an extent, but a different outlook in roster construction this year has contributed to them falling off a cliff this season, as they sit in last place in the Western Conference.
Still, despite taking just one win so far this season, S2 have been playing better on the whole lately and have mostly been a few bounces of the ball or a lapse or two away from a result. I don't expect this game to be easy for Orange County, who will be very eager to grab a win, but if they can get the attack and defense alike on track, they should have a good shot of three points.
One player who won't be involved in the proceedings is Blues midfielder Ivan Mirkovic, suspended for this game after picking up a red card last week against Colorado Springs Switchbacks.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 12 points (3-4-3), 10th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -5 (8/13); Last five games: D-L-D-L-W
S2: 7 points (1-6-4), 15th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -9 (6/15); Last five games: L-D-L-L-D
