The Orange County Blues face another team for the first (and in this case, only) time this season on Saturday evening, as they are in Oklahoma to take on OKC Energy FC. Given the regional nature of the scheduling this season, this will be the only chance for each side to grab three points off the other.
OKC are having a reliably solid season once more, but they are certainly flying under the radar in a packed league this year. Jimmy Nielsen remains at the helm of the club, but high-scoring compatriot Danni Konig has scored nowhere near the goals he had last year, and overall this team is stingy both in scoring and in conceding. Holding an edge in the all-time series, with a 3-2-1 mark, and playing at home, OKC are also on a five-game unbeaten run and probably really like their chances to get a win in this game.
That means the objective for Orange County is to play good, smart soccer and try to grind out a result, most likely. Sure, they’ve had a couple of outburst wins, but most of their results this year have been tight, and taking one of their longest road trips east this year, against a team in form, it’s probably going to be a grind. At their best, the Blues are capable of beating just about anybody, it’s just a matter of seeing if they’ll be playing their best in this game.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 22 points (6-7-4), 8th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -4 (22/26); Last five matches: D-L-W-L-W
OKC Energy: 25 points (6-2-7), 6th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: 6 (18/12); Last five matches: W-D-D-D-W
