How to Watch LA Galaxy II vs. Orange County Blues

The 405 Derby is renewed on Saturday night.

USL action continues this weekend and locally it’s a rivalry game, with the Orange County Blues traveling up the 405 to take on LA Galaxy II this evening.

It’s the second meeting of the season between the clubs, after they played to a 1-1 draw in April, a game which kicked off a four-game unbeaten streak and three-game winning run for the Blues, their best run to date of the season. LA, meanwhile, have fallen a bit from their status atop the Western Conference, but they remain one of the top teams and look certain to be a playoff team again this year.

I’m not sure how much of a rivalry there is between the actual players on these teams, with all the regular turnover in USL and a couple players who’ve been on both sides, but the first meeting between these sides showed some of that derby chippiness that rivalry games tend to have. Add to that the desire on the part of the Blues to attempt to even up the all-time series, since they didn’t notch a win over LA for the first time until last fall. Galaxy II continue to hold a big lead in the series between the sides, so a win here for OC would mean a little bit more overall.

Still, it won’t be easy, and one of the surprising features of LA’s roster is in fact how much stability they have. Yes, there’s turnover, and there’s the built-in unpredictability of being an MLS2 side and having players move up and down between the teams, but one of LA’s great strengths is having a core group of contributors on the USL side who are continuing to come into their own.

Tale of the Tape:

OC Blues: 21 points (6-6-3), 7th in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -3 (18/21); Last five games: W-L-W-L-W

LA Galaxy II: 26 points (6-2-8), 3rd in Western Conference; Goal Difference: 10 (31/21); Last five games: W-D-D-D-W

How to watch LA Galaxy II vs. OC Blues: The game kicks off at 7:30 pm PT at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium on Saturday. If you can’t make it out to the game, you can watch the stream below, or in USL’s matchcenter for the game.
