The Orange County Blues are back in the heartland this weekend, as they attempt to get back to winning ways with their easternmost road trip this season, taking on brand new opponent Swope Park Rangers for the first time (5:30 pm PT).
Swope Park is the USL team for Sporting Kansas City, in their first season, and after jumping out to a pretty hot start this year, have cooled off a bit as the season has gone on. They’ve amassed a nice mix of prospects and good USL talent on the team, and given their mission to support the MLS side, results and consistent lineups may not be the constant priority. Since it’s the first meeting (and only encounter this regular season) it’s hard to completely predict what’s to come.
But as it stands, the teams are on identical points and records at the moment. That would seem to indicate they will be pretty evenly matched. While USL announced Didier Crettenand is out for this game with an injury, which will most likely be a blow, the Blues remain on their alternating results pattern, and they lost their last game. Does that mean a win or draw is in the cards tonight? If the pattern continues, it does.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 22 points (6-8-4), 10th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -5 (23/28); Last five games: L-D-L-W-L
Swope Park Rangers: 22 points (6-8-4), 9th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -4 (23/27); Last five games: D-L-D-W-W
