The latest edition of the 405 Derby is here, and the Orange County Blues host local rivals LA Galaxy II at Anteater Stadium tonight (7:30 pm PT).
The teams are in opposing form at the moment, with the Blues winless this month and Galaxy II on a four-game winning streak. The teams are 10 places apart in the Western Conference standings, with OC’s playoff hopes in real danger at this stage in the season.
LA holds the 1-0-1 advantage in the season series so far, so a much-needed win for the Blues would split the Derby points to this point for the season. And the Blues have some reinforcements joining the team, with Richard Chaplow and Pablo Cruz signing with the side in the past couple days. If these players can make a quick impact, that may be the boost OC needs to get back in gear and get a result.
On paper, Galaxy II are big favorites for this game, based on the all-time series and recent form for both sides, even with it being hosted at the Blues’ stadium. But you never know what can happen in rivalry games, and the Blues have it all to play for. They’ve shown quality in spurts, and maybe this will be their night.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 22 points (6-9-4), 12th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -8 (23/31); Last five games: L-L-D-L-W
LA Galaxy II: 35 points (9-2-8), 2nd place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: 15 (40/25); Last five games: W-W-W-W-D
