Fresh off their big win against local rivals last weekend, the Orange County Blues will have to deal with a key player suspended for their next match.
Blues defender Brenton Griffiths picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against the LA Galaxy II on Saturday in the 2-0 win, and has therefore picked up an automatic one-game suspension, according to USL’s weekly disciplinary report. That means he’ll miss Thursday’s match against Tulsa Roughnecks.
Griffiths has started 17 of the Blues’ 20 league games so far this season, once again serving as an anchor on the backline. On the bright side for the Blues, Griffiths’ regular partner in central defense, Maurice Pluntke, was also one yellow card away from suspension, but he avoided a yellow against LA and will presumably be ready to start against Tulsa.
Also of note for Thursday’s game: Roughnecks midfielder Henri Manhebo is also suspended for the game. As he’s played 18 games this season that appears to be a significant loss for Orange County’s opponent.
