The Orange County Blues have a tough task on Thursday, as they head back to the heartland to try and grab three massive points, this time against Tulsa Roughnecks in Tulsa.
The Blues lost on their two previous trips to the region last month, against OKC Energy and then Swope Park Rangers in Kansas City, and add in their loss to San Antonio FC on the road, and heading to the middle of the country has been a bit of a nightmare.
But! OC are coming off one of their best performances of the season, in the always-tricky rivalry game against LA Galaxy II, and it’s put up or shut up time for them. And they’re adding some talent, with three players (including Canadian winger AJ Gray) signed in the past week. This team looks like they are trying to make a real push for the playoffs, and maybe the midseason acquisitions will work the wonders they did last season for Oliver Wyss, and energize the club in the homestretch of the regular season.
And while Tulsa have struggled mightily this season, as they sit at the bottom of the conference standings, they have reason for optimism, not only because they won their last game and are in better form than the Blues over the past five games but also because they’ve swept the all-time series against the Blues. Granted, that’s just two games so far, but they’re technically perfect. Seems like both sides will have considerable reason for optimism here.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 25 points (7-9-4), 10th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -6 (25/31); Last five games: W-L-L-D-L
Tulsa Roughnecks: 18 points (5-12-3), 15th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -18 (22/40); Last five games: W-L-W-D-L
