The Orange County Blues have a tough midweek game on Wednesday against USL Western Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, and in case the busy schedule didn’t already dictate it, will have to make two changes to their core starting group.

Defender Maurice Pluntke and midfielder Ivan Mirkovic are both out for Wednesday’s game, suspended for one game due to yellow card accumulation (five yellows for Pluntke, eight for Mirkovic).

Both players have been key this season for Orange County, as Pluntke has appeared in 20 league games and Mirkovic in 18. And going on the road to the best team in the conference and missing two important players is going to hurt, no doubt.

At the same time, given the fixture congestion, with two games last week and two this week, it’s possible both players could have been in line to sit out a game to rest. As it stands, the Blues’ coaching staff’s hand is forced in this particular instance.
