The headlines for the Orange County Blues this week are clearly the ownership change, as James Keston has purchased the club. But, the march of time continues on, and we’ve got games left to play, starting with Friday’s road clash against Real Monarchs at Rio Tinto Stadium (6 pm PT).
The Blues have fallen outside the playoff places in the Western Conference and need to pick up points now to get back in the reckoning. And they’re facing a Real Monarchs side that is in better form and breathing down their necks, just one point behind in the standings.
As we after OC’s last game, the team is effectively in the playoffs now, and they can’t afford to drop points if they want to make the postseason proper. The next three games are enormous, and if they can get a road win here, that will bolster their chances tremendously for a USL Cup chase.
Akwafei Ajeakwa is suspended this game for picking up a red card against Sacramento. Trevin Caesar is back from international duty, so expect him to start, and Richard Chaplow is available following a two-game ban under certainly controversial circumstances.
The season series is split so far, so this will be the deciding game — not only for the series but possibly for these teams’ season overall. Should be a fascinating encounter.
Tale of the Tape:
OC Blues: 34 points (10-13-4), 9th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -7 (33/40); Last five games: L-L-W-L-W
Real Monarchs: 33 points (9-11-6), 11th place in Western Conference: Goal Difference: -7 (26/33); Last five games: D-W-W-W-D
