Chelsea and Roma battle to 3-3 draw in Champions League

There were some interesting results across Europe on Wednesday in the Champions League, but the highlight was the 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge between Chelsea and Roma. Chelsea went up 2-0 in the first half, with goals by David Luiz and Eden Hazard, and looked like they would run out comfortable victors. However, Roma hit back before the break, with Alexsandr Kolarov striking a nice shot that took a slight deflection and found the net. Another ex-Man City player, Edin Dzeko, did the damage in the second half, striking a brilliant volley to tie the game at 2-2, and then scoring on a nice header to give Roma the lead. Eden Hazard struck back to equalize, and the game ended 3-3. This was a nice result for Roma after their defeat to Napoli over the weekend, and as for Chelsea, while a draw against Roma isn’t bad per se, it is disappointing to concede three goals at home after being up 2-0.

Landon Donovan as the next president of U.S. Soccer?

Sunil Gulati has been the U.S. Soccer president for a long time, and lately this has prompted calls that there should be a change at the top of U.S. Soccer. Those calls have increased exponentially since the U.S. failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2018. Now, one of the people who could run for U.S. Soccer president is apparently Landon Donovan. Grant Wahl discusses the news that Donovan could try to become U.S. Soccer President.

Bill Hamid to leave D.C. United

Bill Hamid has been one of the best goalies in MLS for the last few years. He has also been on the fringes of the national team, getting some call ups, and sometimes being the 3rd goalie on the roster with Brad Guzan and Tim Howard. However, Hamid has dealt with injury issues lately too, and his form this year is not quite what its been. Hamid’s contract is up at the end of the year, and though he has been with D.C. United his whole career so far, he’s declared that he wants to explore other options, implying that a move to Europe could be on the cards. The U.S. needs a new goalie to man the posts for the national team, and it would be nice to see Hamid back in form challenging for that spot.

Kevin De Bruyne shining bright this season for Manchester City

Manchester City has been on fire this season. Pep Guardiola appears to have them running on all cylinders, and many players have done well. Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Jon Stones, all have played well for Guardiola. But the star of the team has been Kevin De Bruyne. De Bruyne is a magical creator, and he can also score great goals, like he did against Chelsea a couple of weeks ago. City have been flying high this season, and it is De Bruyne who has been the pilot.
