Recently we talked about the first national team call-ups for players in the Los Angeles Football Club academy, three players from the LAFC Slammers U.S. Soccer Development Girls Academy program.
This week, one of those players, Tatiana Fung, has been called up again by the U.S. National Team, this time the U-15 Girls National Team, to head out on a training camp and pair of friendlies in Germany against the German U-15s.
The group, the core of which is expected to cycle into the next round of U-17s ahead of the next U-17 World Cup, will be playing in Marburg, Germany on Wednesday and Wetzlar, Germany on Friday. Interestingly, the U.S. U-15s are now coached by Tracey Kevins, who once upon a time was head coach of the defunct W-League side LA Strikers.
Fung has been receiving call-ups above the U-15 level, most recently getting the call for a U-16 USWNT training camp in Chula Vista. Fung also recently went to Germany with the U.S. U-16s in September, so she’s racking up some miles.
Congrats to Tatiana, and a quick update on the LAFC Slammers teams: The U-15s have dipped below the playoffs spots after Saturday’s loss, but they’re in the mix with a lot of games left to play. The U-16/17s and U-17/18s are flying right now results-wise and are at or near the top of their divisions, again, with the proviso that there’s a lot of soccer left to be played this season.
