Orange County SC have two games left in the 2017 USL regular season, and host their final home game on Saturday, against Reno 1868 FC. It’s OC’s second chance to get a result over Reno in Irvine, after the expansion side blew them away 3-1 last month.
Coming into the weekend, Orange County are still alive in the playoff chase after their midweek win over Sacramento, barely, and to pull off a miraculous qualification again this year they’ll have to win this game, as well as their last game and get some help from their opponents to make it. But first and foremost they have to pick up three points.
Interestingly, the teams are on identical form the last five games, each picking up seven points. Reno have booked their ticket to the postseason already, and cannot catch Real Monarchs in first place, so they’ll be looking to be in good form and staying healthy for the playoffs. Will they take a bit of a mental break or rotate their lineup against Orange County? It’s possible, and that could give OC an opening to pick up a win.
Again, the playoffs are a longshot here, but if OC can finish the season strong, they’ll end the season on a high point at the very least. We’ll see how they do tonight in another must-win game.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 40 points (10-10-10), 9th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -2; Last five games: W-L-D-W-L
Reno 1868 FC: 55 points (16-7-7), 2nd place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +33; Last five games: L-W-W-L-D
