What Angels on Parade is thankful for this year

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! Believe it or not, but this is Angels on Parade’s seventh (7th!) Thanksgiving. And we feel like the best is yet to come.

Here are three things we’re thankful for this year:

We are so close! Considering we’ve waited three years already for Los Angeles Football Club to really start playing actual professional soccer games, it feels surreal that we’re only a matter of months away from it really happening. There’s a coach in Bob Bradley who is respected, there’s a stadium being built with tangible progress — it looks like they could get it done by the Spring, soccer gods willing! — and there are professional players being signed. This is happening!

2018 can’t get here soon enough, but there’s plenty of reason to be thankful for the progress made ahead of the inaugural season.

Orange County SC

Like this site, Orange County have been around since 2011, but they’ve also done a rebrand (in their case, two rebrands) since launch. And while the season on the field didn’t turn out quite as good as everyone hoped, there was a sense that progress was being made in general. The team largely used young players, featuring a lot of prospects getting a chance to show what they can do, or players who hadn’t quite made the grade the first time getting a second chance. There were a lot of good performances and some standout players, and if a good core of the team can be retained, they may make some noise in 2018.

Off the field, things seem much more stable for Orange County SC. In addition to the rebrand ahead of the season, the team made a formal partnership with LAFC, and some of the connections between the teams immediately bore fruit for OCSC. And most of all, Orange County SC opened a brand-new stadium this year, a major upgrade of a facility that should prove to be a good anchor for the team in the years to come. All in all, it seems like this organization has some footing to push on for greater things, and that’s definitely something to be thankful for.

You, the readers

Time to get sentimental! As always, we at Angels on Parade do what we do because you read what we write. We are so thankful for your support, and we work hard to keep you coming back. If you have any suggestions for the site moving forward, or are interested in joining the team, let us know!
