Angels Links: Tottenham go down against Leicester

The midweek fixtures in England are off to an interesting start.

Leicester beats Tottenham, Man United downs Watford in midweek Premier League action

In a further hit to their title hopes, Tottenham were defeated by Leicester 2-1 during the midweek fixtures on Tuesday. Leicester jumped out to a lead, with a goal early by Jamie Vardy and then one right before halftime by Riyad Mahrez. Harry Kane scored late to make things interesting, but it was ultimately not enough. Despite their impressive run the Champions League, Tottenham have struggled in the league lately. With the way Manchester City are playing, they might already be out of the title race. Elsewhere, Manchester United beat Watford 4-2 to stay close to leaders Manchester City.

Kyle Martino hoping to change soccer culture in the U.S. if elected U.S. Soccer president

Sunil Gulati has achieved a lot as president of U.S. Soccer. He has raised the profile of U.S. Soccer, made a lot of money for the federation, and U.S. Soccer has made good strides on the field as well. However, things can most assuredly be improved, and that is what Kyle Martino is aiming to do. With proposals to reduce the number of youth players who are priced out of playing soccer, adding training centers around the country, investing more money in NWSL, and others, Martino certainly has an ambitious plan to try and implement, if he gets elected.

D.C. United to play a few home games at alternate sites next season

D.C. United finally moved out of RFK stadium, and will move into their new stadium Audi Field next year. However, the new stadium won’t be ready until about June. D.C. United had hoped to backload their schedule with home games so they could play as many home games at their new stadium. However, they will have to play some games before the stadium is ready, and they are exploring options for this. Its unlikely they will return to RFK, or play in any venue in Washington DC, but they have had talks with the Naval Academy about using their stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. Games in Baltimore or Richmond, Virginia are also possibilities.

AS Roma close to meeting the vision of their ambitious owner

AS Roma is a well known team around the world, and though they have done well historically, they have always been overshadowed by their northern rivals, Juventus and the Milan teams. But this year they are excelling, looking to make it out of their Champions League group and near the top of Serie A at the moment. This is the path that Roma owner James Pallotta was hoping for when he bought the team. He talked about Roma’s trajectory and more with SI’s Grant Wahl.
