Here’s the full list of players available for LAFC’s expansion draft

MLS released the full list of players available for selection in Tuesday’s 2017 MLS Expansion Draft, to be held to help stock Los Angeles Football Club’s inaugural roster. Over 300 players leaguewide are officially available for selection by LAFC, from which the expansion team will take a mere five players, and a maximum of one per MLS team. That’s a lot of choices.

While some of the players eligible for selection are under contract for 2018, a significant proportion are either out of contract or have had their contract options for 2018 declined. However, there is still value in selecting them, as LAFC would get their MLS rights if selected, at least until the waiver and Re-Entry drafts, and could help them sign a player in relatively short order.

There is one category of player available that is not at all valuable to select, however, and that’s Free Agents. While I suppose LAFC could take a Free Agent in the Expansion Draft, there’s no good reason to do so unless they’re trying to woo a Free Agent and make him feel special. Otherwise, they have no claim over a Free Agent’s rights, and any Free Agent taken in the Expansion Draft would still be able to freely sign with the MLS team of his choice.

So here’s the full list of players available for Tuesday’s draft, which takes place at 11 am PT. Since LAFC are the only team selecting players this year, they won’t have to game out a group of players and pick on the fly, instead having the freedom to take the five players eligible that they wish.
