2018 MLS expansion team Los Angeles Football Club held the 2017 MLS Expansion Draft on Tuesday, selecting five players from around the league previously made available by all other 22 teams, a pool of over 300 players.
Both precedent and reports circulating claim that LAFC will flip some of the players picked to other teams for other players and/or assets, perhaps even all five picks. Some of those deals will come out in the ensuing hours and days, but here’s what we know right now as far as the actual result of the Expansion Draft:
- Tyler Miller (GK, Seattle Sounders)
- Latif Blessing (F/W, Sporting Kansas City)
- Marco Ureña (F, San Jose Earthquakes)
- Jukka Raitala (D, Columbus Crew SC)
- Raheem Edwards (M/D, Toronto FC)
Now, we wait and see what additional trade news comes out of this. As it stands, LAFC have signed or added Carlos Vela, Omar Gaber, Walker Zimmerman in recent months, to go alongside previous signings Carlos Alvarez, Monday Etim and Rodrigo Pacheco. Will any of today’s picks be joining the expansion roster for 2018? Stay tuned on this and much more news.
